Simple Way to Prepare Award-winning Cottage Pie

Hello everybody, it is me again, Dan, welcome to my recipe page. Today, I’m gonna show you how to prepare a distinctive dish, cottage pie. One of my favorites. For mine, I’m gonna make it a little bit unique. This is gonna smell and look delicious.

Cottage Pie is one of the most favored of recent trending foods on earth. It is simple, it’s quick, it tastes delicious. It’s appreciated by millions every day. Cottage Pie is something which I have loved my whole life. They’re fine and they look wonderful.

To begin with this recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can cook cottage pie using 14 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Cottage Pie:
  1. Prepare 1 Tablespoon Oil
  2. Prepare 500 g Beef Mince
  3. Take 1 Large Onion
  4. Take 1 Garlic Clove
  5. Make ready 2 Sprigs Fresh Thyme
  6. Get 2 Tablespoons Tomato Purée
  7. Take 2 Large Carrots (cut small)
  8. Prepare 500 ml Beef Stock
  9. Make ready 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  10. Make ready 1 Tablespoon Butter
  11. Prepare Salt and Pepper (to taste)
  12. Prepare 1 Tablespoon Flour
  13. Take 8 Medium Potatoes
  14. Make ready 50 ml Milk
Instructions to make Cottage Pie:
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C
  2. Peel, wash and chop the potatoes into 4, add to saucepan with boiling water and a pinch of salt. Boil for 25 minutes on a medium/high heat
  3. Heat up pan until hot or as I like to use, my wok as it is great for quick cooking! Add the tablespoon of oil and break up the mince into the pan, cooking until the meat has browned
  4. Add the onion, garlic, carrots and thyme and fry until softened
  5. Add the tablespoon of flour (through a sieve) try not to get any big lumps in there! Stir on a low/medium heat covering the meat and veggies - (this will help thicken the stock when you add it)
  6. Add tomato purée, salt and pepper to taste and then add the beef stock stirring as you add. Leave to simmer for 25 minutes to let the vegetables soften and the sauce thicken
  7. Whilst your filling is simmering away strain your potatoes and mash them adding your butter and a good grind of pepper
  8. Pour the mince filling into a baking dish and top with the mash. Fluff the top with a fork and I like to rub a little butter in with the fork so when it goes into the oven it makes it nice and crisp!
  9. Cook for 10-15 minutes untill nice and golden brown and hot all the way through. Serve with some broccoli / asparagus 👍🏼
